Saw on Pawn Stars (one of my favorite shows) that before 1982, pennies were 95% copper and after that time they had very little copper because copper became valuable. It still is. I just calculated that a pre-1982 penny has about 1.9 cents worth of copper. Ru-Jun and I started going through the change we had around and we are now saving all of the older pennies. Pretty fun.
Neon tetras July 30, 2013
The first fish into the new 40 gal aquarium are three neon tetras. They went in last night and appear to be doing OK. Ru-Jun has named them Mercy, Rosetta, and Silver. If these do well, our plan is to get 3-6 more so they can form a little school, which should be very interesting to watch.
A fast weekend July 28, 2013
Yesterday’s events and with Roman’s family here most of the morning made the weekend go by pretty fast. As we do more things like this and try to do normal family stuff this will seem like a more usual weekend.
Fun Visit July 27, 2013
My former student Roman and his family, Sri, boys Abi (6) and Noah (3) are visiting and staying overnight. They visited a little over a year ago and the kids remember each other. They’ve had fun reuniting (we all have) and playing together. Good to see other families with small kids and just great to see these guys again and talk medical stuff with Sri and of course science with Roman.
171 lbs. July 26, 2013
But weight loss is slowing down. My goal is 165. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get there. I’m hungry all the time as it is.
Snails July 25, 2013
Graduate student Mike provided two good-sized snails for the new aquarium. Ru-Jun is suitably jazzed about them. They are pretty cool. They move just fast enough to be interesting to watch. Probably not much food in there for them right now, since the tank is pretty clean and has only been set up for about a week.
